Dodo Wisdom

Dodo Wisdom was a Major Catastrophe’s Pandemic project for 2020-2021. The Dodos still make appearances occasionally.

What are the Dodos?

The Dodos came to Obtainium Works from a good friend, David Apocalypse, when he moved from San Francisco to Pittsburg, PA and had to let them go from his Oddities exhibit. Originally, they were made for the Natural History Museum in San Francisco and were some kind of prehistoric bird. Unfortunately, by the time the Dodos were finished, the science had changed and they no longer were an accurate representation. The Museum couldn’t show them and they became a wonderful Craigslist find!

The Dodos have been involved in many of our events in Vallejo, CA and were named Ludwig and Lutwidge. We wanted to honor Lewis Carroll’s favorite character in Alice in Wonderland, the Dodo, so Ludwidge is Carroll’s real middle name. And we couldn’t have 2 with the same name, so they have similar names.

As the studio expanded, we needed to move the Dodos out of the way – what better spot than the roof overlooking our street. They have become a landmark of our studio for people in the community. When the rhetoric in the White House started to really get interesting, I decided to give the Dodos their opportunity to comment as apparently we’re giving all idiots a voice these days! Thus began the weekly Dodo Wisdom installation.

Thanks to the crew of Obtainium Works for their input at our virtual Safety Meeting each week on Sundays.  The following is an explanation, if needed, for each week’s inspiration.
